As of today, 359 staff members have completed the Employee Kindness survey. Our goal is to have at least 1000 responses so please encourage your staff to take this 5 minute survey by January 31. Please ensure staff are given the time to do this and access to computers.

Solar panel work on the roof of the north side employee parking structure is nearly complete; however, parking has already been freed up for use. All staff that were requested to park elsewhere during the project in this structure are now requested to return as soon as possible.

The next phase of the project will be the south side employee surface parking lot. This work is scheduled to begin this Monday, January 23rd. The entire parking lot will be closed during this phase; therefore, staff are requested to relocate to the north side employee parking structure. Access to the structure may be obtained on Ventura Canyon Ave, Cantara St, and Roscoe Blvd. Existing parking cards will work at the structure.

Stack parking on the roof may be necessary to accommodate all staff. This service will be available beginning Monday, January 23rd between the hours of 8am and 5pm and provided by our current tram/valet vendor, MPI. Early morning tram service will be concentrated on the north side to assist south side staff in getting to the hospital and MO5.

We will be encountering new members to Kaiser Permanente soon and want to make sure that we provide a consistent and positive first visit for each of them.

A message from Julie Miller-Phipps, regional president, KPSC; and Edward Ellison, MD, executive medical director, SCPMG, regarding the “Believe Me” policy:
Now and over the course of the next few weeks, many new members will have their first encounters with Kaiser Permanente. It is essential that we make it a good one. The “Believe Me” policy underscores that we believe people who say they are KP members – even if they don’t have a current ID card or medical record number on file. It is one way for new (and current) members to be assured that their care and concerns are our highest priority – and one way for us to start building positive, long-term relationships with our members, based on trust.

Additional Communications: Reminder messages have recently been re-posted or re-sent via various communications channels (Inside KP, Managing this Week, Front receptionist newsletter, and others) and we will continue to leverage these vehicles. Your voice and your personal messages will amplify and reinforce these efforts.

Bill Hold Period: To be clear, the Believe Me policy does not require that we provide care free of charge. It establishes a 90-day period during which we will hold bills while we check membership systems for coverage. Once the member information is reconciled with our business systems, we will apply the plan provisions to ensure we are appropriately reimbursed; that we collect for care that is not covered by a Kaiser Permanente plan; or that we capture data to recognize any community benefit health services we provide.

The Need is Immediate: Right now, saturation of “Believe Me” information is crucial: employer groups or the Covered California exchange may experience delays in providing data about newly enrolled KP members. If we don’t have adequate time to process and populate our internal systems, there may be a period during which covered members do not appear in our systems. Addressing this gap is why we established our national Believe Me policy in 2014, and why are reiterating it today.
